Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton suggested that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is similar to late Queen Elizabeth II.
During Sunday’s appearance on CNN, host Dana Bash asked Clinton who she believes are the “gutsiest” people in politics at the moment.
Clinton replied, “I think Nancy Pelosi is the gutsiest woman in politics right now.”
She explained, “She has shown, through all kinds of turmoil and challenge, what it means to — somewhat like the Queen to be drawing an analogy here — get up every day, put on those high heels she wears, suit up to fight for the values and ideals that she strongly believes in.”

During her interview with Bash, she also reflected on the time she spent with the Queen.
Clinton called the Queen “an engaging and lively conversationalist.”
She continued, “She asked great questions. She was interested in what was going on in the United States, elsewhere in the world.”
Her husband, former President Bill Clinton, paid tribute to the queen, saying, “It was wise not to underestimate her.”
He added, “She was a smart person. She knew what she was doing. And she believed that the life she had devoted to preserving the British monarchy was not a wasted life.”
Pelosi issued a statement of her own after the news of the Queen’s passing broke.
“Over her seven decades on the throne, Her Majesty was a pillar of leadership in the global arena and a devoted friend of freedom,” Pelosi said.
The House speaker praised the Queen for embodying “the highest spirit of civic duty: earning the reverence of her people and the respect of the world. Her Majesty capably shepherded the United Kingdom through great turbulence and transition.”
Pelosi recalled that it was an “honor” to witness the Queen’s 1991 address to Congress.
Concluding her message, Pelosi said, “May it be a comfort to her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and the entire Royal Family that Americans join them in prayer at this sad time.”
The Queen died last week at the age of 96.
