Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) stood up for the people of his state after Democratic Florida gubernatorial nominee Charlie Crist criticized his opponent’s supporters.

During an appearance on Fox News, host Tucker Carlson played a clip of comments Crist made directed at DeSantis’ supporters.

“Those who support the governor should stay with him and vote for him and I don’t want your vote,” Crist said.

He added, “If you have that hate in your heart, keep it there. I want the vote of the people of Florida who care about our state.”

DeSantis responded, “This is his fifth decade running for office. He’s a chameleon, typical career politician.”

He continued, “People support me because I kept the state open and protected their jobs. Charlie Crist wanted it locked down. So that’s not hate in their heart. They’re just appreciative that they had a governor who was standing up for them.”

Addressing Crist’s claims that he wants to “unify Florida,” DeSantis told Carlson, “He says he wants a Florida for all. And then you condemn a majority of the people in the state of Florida. Give me a break.”

Watch the governor’s comments below:

Earlier this week, Crist won the Democratic primary for Florida’s governor race against state Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried.

During an appearance on CNN’s “New Day” following his victory, Crist was asked if he wants President Joe Biden to campaign with him, as IJR reported.

“Absolutely,” Crist said.

He continued, “Listen, look what President Biden has done for our country. He’s been exceptional. Look what he’s done for the world. I mean, what’s happening in Ukraine, him bringing NATO together, new members to NATO — Finland, Sweden. It’s remarkable. The EU. I mean, what other president could have done what he’s done? He’s been phenomenal.”

Politco noted that Crist is up against a difficult task in beating DeSantis as the governor has more than $130 million from his campaign as well as a political committee.
