Gavin Newsom to Advance in Election — Makes Truly Laughable Claim About California

Fresh off his success in his state’s primary election, California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) is making the laughable claim that his state is the “antidote” to Republicans.

California has a jungle primary in which candidates of any party can run, and the top two candidates face off in the general election.

On Tuesday, Newsom handily secured a spot in the top two.

“Across the country, Republicans are attacking our fundamental rights as Americans. Destroying democracy, stripping a woman of the right to choose, and standing idly by as gun violence claims far too many lives,” Newsom claimed on Twitter.

He continued, “CA is the antidote — leading with compassion, common-sense and science. Treasuring diversity, defending democracy, and protecting our planet.”

“Here’s to continuing that fight,” Newsom added.

What exactly is this compassion and science Newsom is referring to?

Is it the decision to ban outdoor dining and hurt small businesses while allowing the film industry to operate outside?

Perhaps Newsom was referring to his trip to the French Laundry restaurant, where he was seen not following his own COVID-19 protocols.

Or the governor was talking about the times he and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti got caught appearing to disregard mask mandates.

He certainly can’t be insisting that sentencing a teenager to a “youth camp” for five months for plowing his car into a woman and her child is compassionate or commonsensical.

As for his claim that Republicans are “destroying democracy,” it’s not exactly clear what he meant.

If Newsom was talking about laws passed by Republican-controlled legislatures around the country, which Democrats have labeled “voter suppression” bills, he might want to look at what actually happened in Georgia.

In Georgia’s primary last month, voter turnout hit record numbers, and the number of ballot rejections saw a large drop-off.

Newsom’s tweet begs the question, what does he really think is happening in red states?
