Losing a child is something no parent should ever have to go through, but one mom is being comforted with the help of her late son’s teammates

When Ely Dehart missed his basketball practice to drive his friend home tragedy struck.

As he was driving up a hill on a gravel road, he lost control of his car.

“They tried to correct it back onto the road and they rolled,” Ely Dehart’s mother, Jennifer Dehart, explained to “Good Morning America.”

Ely Dehart’s friend and cousin were in the car with him that day, but unfortunately Ely was the only one who did not survive the accident.

He was 14 years old and was described by his mother as a “very fun kid” who loved basketball and hugs.

“Losing a child is one of the worst feelings you’ll ever feel in your life. It’s the hardest thing you’ll ever have to go through and I hope nobody ever has to go through it because it is by far the worst,” Jennifer Dehart said.

She continued to share what her grief was like during that difficult time in 2020.

“You can’t breathe. Don’t want to eat. You don’t want to do anything. You just want to go with him, honestly.”

Watch the video below:

After Ely’s accident, Jennifer Dehart and her husband along with their other children went to their first game because they all wanted to go there “to be closer to Ely.”

1 Thessalonians 5:11 says, “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing,” and Ely’s teammates have been a source of encouragement to his family.

“We cheer them on and after the games, they make sure and they look for us to make sure that we’re still there and they’ll come out even all sweaty and everything and hug us. And it’s just the best feeling,” Jennifer Dehart shared.

She also said that his teammates have hugged her outside of the games, tell her that they love her, and message her and that it truly means a lot to her.

“It’s like my child is hugging me through them every time they hug me. That’s what keeps me going. He’s here with me I feel it,” she said.
