Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R) is not ruling out making a run for the White House in 2024.

During an appearance on CNN “State of the Union” Sunday, Hogan told host Jake Tapper, “I’m going to run through the tape as governor till January of next year. I’m going to try to be the very best governor I can be. I’m going to continue to stand up and be a voice. I’m not going to sit back and not be involved in the issues of the day. I’m concerned about the direction of the party and the country. And I’ll make a decision about 2024 after I finish this job.”

Tapper asked, “So, you are considering it?”

“We’re certainly gonna take a look at it after January of 2023,” Hogan responded.

Tapper then asked the governor why he believes there is a “lane for a moderate-ish, blue state, anti-Trump, sane Republican, like you.”

Hogan noted that a recent CNN poll found that “only 50%” of Republicans said they would like former President Donald Trump to run again.

“I believe that there is a pretty large lane of sane Republicans, and they’re looking for a voice,” he added.

Hogan, who has been a vocal Trump critic, ruled out running for Senate last week.

As CNN notes, “The moderate Republican was first elected governor of Maryland in 2014 and was reelected four years later by more than 10 points. Hogan’s success in the heavily Democratic state, plus the perceived weakness of the incumbent Democratic senator, Chris Van Hollen, prompted repeated overtures by GOP leaders to get the governor to run for Senate this year.”

However, during a press conference, he said, “I have repeatedly said, I don’t aspire to be a senator, and that fact has not changed.”
