Rep. Majorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) received harsh backlash after raising the prospect of a so-called “national divorce” on Twitter.

On Wednesday, the Georgia Congresswoman shared a tweet suggesting that people moving from states such as California or New York to Florida should not be allowed to vote for a certain period of time.

“All possible in a National Divorce scenario,” she wrote. “After Democrat voters and big donors ruin a state like California, you would think it wise to stop them from doing it to another great state like Florida. Brainwashed people that move from CA and NY really need a cooling off period.”

Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) responded, “There is no ‘National Divorce’ either you are for civil war or not. Just say it if you want a civil war and officially declare yourself a traitor.”

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) tweeted, “Don’t ignore this. I want you to see what a GOP-run country looks like. They will take your right to vote if you don’t agree with them. MTG may sound batty but she’s not kidding and she has [House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.)] fully behind her.”

The criticism was bipartisan, with Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) tweeting, “Retweet this message to Kevin McCarthy @GOPLeader if you think he should address whether he agrees with MTG or not? Do you agree the media should only ask this question until they get a direct answer? Easy yes or no.”

Check out some of the other responses below:

Civil war. A national divorce is a civil war.

Hey @Jim_Jordan: is this what you meant when you called Marjorie Taylor Greene "the kind of fighter needed in Washington"? pic.twitter.com/UhbV2TuipT

Wait…. Marjorie Taylor Greene wants a “National divorce” instead of trying to find unity? She won’t even make an attempt at being the bare minimum of a decent human being? Is the latter really that difficult for her?

How many times does Marjorie Taylor Greene get to blow her dog whistle for Civil War with "National Divorce" bullshit before finally being censured?

She is a National Disgrace.

Marjorie Taylor Greene wants a “National Divorce”

Anyone who loves America would say no to that.

@GOPLeader should bench this National Disgrace.

Greene tweeted on Thursday that calling for a “national divorce” is a “wake up call to the one offending the other that they’ve had enough.”

“I’ve been married 26 years, clearly I’m not in favor of divorce. Happy marriages are the result of 2 committed people working together resolving differences and changing behavior that hurts the other,” she continued. “So I will NOT apologize when I muse or discuss ideas that stop Democrat voters and donors, who are moving out of the shitholes they created with their Democrat votes and donations, from ruining GREAT red states by bringing your disastrous ideas and destructive votes with you.”

2. Divorces happen in court or perhaps for a country can happen in Congress.

Finally, Greene wrote, “I don’t want a National Divorce, but I not will tolerate is Democratic Communism. Leave your blue votes in your blue states. If you move to a red state, learn from your blue state experience that your Democrat ways failed. Then we welcome you.”
