Former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn is suing the House select committee investigating the January 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.

His lawsuit states, “General Flynn further seeks declaratory and injunctive relief prohibiting the Select Committee from obtaining or releasing any records of General Flynn or his family’s communications that the Select Committee obtained through subpoenas issued to telecommunications providers that were likewise issued in whole or in part without legal authority in violation of the Constitution and laws of the United States.”

According to the lawsuit, Flynn is expected to exercise his rights provided by the Fifth Amendment, not to be a witness against himself.

It argues without intervention, “General Flynn faces the harm of being irreparably and illegally coerced to produce information and testimony in violation of the law and his constitutional rights.”

Flynn is not the only one to sue the committee.

Former President Donald Trump, former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, election lawyer, Cleta Mitchell, far-right media personality, Alex Jones, an organizer for “Stop the Steal,” Ali Alexander, conservative lawyer, John Eastman, and a freelance photographer, Amy Harris, are challenging the committee’s subpoenas.

Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.), chair of the committee, penned a letter to Flynn last month, saying they wanted information about the meeting he had with the former president and others in December of 2020, as NBC News reports.

The letter states, during the meeting, “Participants discussed seizing voting machines, declaring a national emergency, invoking certain national security emergency powers, and continuing to spread the message that the November 2020 election had been tainted by widespread fraud.”

In November of 2020, Trump pardoned Flynn. The former national security advisor previously pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI.

“It is my Great Honor to announce that General Michael T. Flynn has been granted a Full Pardon,” Trump tweeted. “Congratulations to [Gen Flynn] and his wonderful family, I know you will now have a truly fantastic Thanksgiving!”
