Fox News’ Tucker Carlson believes CNN’s Chris Cuomo is a “buffoon” but that he made the right decision to help defend his brother, former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D), against allegations of sexual harassment.

After spending several minutes lambasting the CNN host as a “buffoon” on Tuesday night, Carlson began to defend Cuomo.

“The only thing you can’t do at CNN, the thing that they will never tolerate, is displeasing the people in charge. That means not simply Jeff Zucker, who runs the company, but the billionaires who run our country. If you cross them, you’re done,” Carlson said.

He went on to say he “knew it was curtains for Chris Cuomo” when he saw an article in The Atlantic titled, “Chris Cuomo Must Go.”

“The Atlantic decided that it was deeply displeased Chris Cuomo had dared to help his brother, the former governor of New York, when he was accused of sexual harassment,” he said.

Carlson went on to say he “started to feel sorry” for Chris Cuomo “for the first time ever” because “helping his brother is not the worst thing Chris Cuomo ever did.”

He continued, “In fact, it may have been the best thing he ever did. Not because Andrew Cuomo was a good person, he certainly wasn’t a good person. Andrew Cuomo was loathsome. But Andrew Cuomo was Chris Cuomo’s brother, and that’s what you do with brothers even the loathsome ones. You help them when they need it.”

Finally, Carlson said, “Your first obligation is to your family. Your first obligation is not to the state. It’s not to a political party. It’s not to Jeff Zucker or some creepy billionaire at The Atlantic. It’s not even to your own career. Your most basic obligation is to the people you’re related to.

He continued, “When they need your help, no matter who they, or even if they’re a governor of a state, even if they’re horrible people, you help them anyway cause it’s your family. Chris Cuomo may be an idiot, and he is, but he understands that. What a thing to be fired for,” he added.

On Tuesday, CNN announced that it had suspended Chris Cuomo indefinitely after documents revealed the extent to which he was involved in helping defend Andrew Cuomo.

In a statement, the network said, “The documents, which we were not privy to before their public release, raise serious questions. When Chris admitted to us that he had offered advice to his brother’s staff, he broke our rules, and we acknowledged that publicly.”

“But we also appreciated the unique position he was in and understood his need to put family first and job second. However, these documents point to a greater level of involvement in his brother’s efforts than we previously knew. As a result, we have suspended Chris indefinitely, pending further evaluation,” it added.
