The Biden administration is considering finding a position for Terry McAuliffe, a former governor of Virginia, according to a report.

Punchbowl news reported Thursday, “The Biden administration is interested in finding a spot somewhere for Terry McAuliffe according to multiple high-level sources familiar with the White House’s thinking.”

The outlet continued, “All Cabinet spots are full, for now. And McAuliffe isn’t asking for a job; this seems to be the administration trying to find a place where McAuliffe can serve.”

Republican Glenn Youngkin won the Virginia governor’s race, defeating McAuliffe earlier this month, as IJR reported.

President Joe Biden campaigned with McAuliffe in the days leading up to the election. The president focused on making comparisons between Youngkin and former President Donald Trump.

“Terry’s opponent has made all of his private pledges of loyalty to Donald Trump. But what is really interesting to me is he won’t stand next to Donald Trump now that the campaign is on,” Biden said. “Think about it. He won’t allow Donald Trump to campaign with him in this state.”

He added, “He is willing to pledge his loyalty to Trump in private, why not in public? What is he trying to hide? Is there a problem with Trump being here? Is he embarrassed?”

Biden also called Youngkin “an acolyte” of the former president.

The president later explained why he believes voters elected Youngkin over McAuliffe.

“People are upset and uncertain about a lot of things, from COVID to school to jobs to a whole range of things, from the cost of a gallon of gasoline,” Biden said. “And so if I’m able to pass signed into law my Build Back better initiative, I’m in a position where you’re going to see a lot of those things ameliorated quickly and swiftly. So that has to be done.”

He was asked whether McAuliffe would have won the election if his bills had passed.

“Well, I think we should have and should have passed before Election Day, but I’m not sure that I would be able to have changed the number of very conservative folks who turned out in the red districts who were Trump voters,” Biden said.

He added, “But maybe, maybe.”
