Giuliani Says He Did Not Have Time to Investigate Voter Fraud Claims

PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA - NOVEMBER 07: Attorney for the President, Rudy Giuliani speaks to the media at a press conference held in the back parking lot of Four Seasons Total Landscaping on November 7, 2020 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The press conference took place just minutes after news networks announced that Joe Biden had won the presidency over Donald Trump after it was projected that he had won the state of Pennsylvania. Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani claimed he did not have time to investigate reports of election fraud, according to deposition tapes.

CNN first obtained tapes of depositions given by former attorneys for former President Donald Trump, Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell.

The footage shows responses from the Trump allies to questions asked by a lawyer representing former Dominion Voting Systems executive Eric Coomer in his defamation case against them, as CNN reports.

“We had a report that the heads of Dominion and Smartmatic, somewhere in the mid-tweens, you know 2013, 2014, whatever, went down to Venezuela for a get-to-know meeting with (President Nicolás) Maduro so they could demonstrate to Maduro the kind of vote fixing they did for (former President Hugo) Chavez,” Giuliani said.

Coomer’s attorney added, “You say the heads of Dominion and Smartmatic.”

Giuliani explained, “Yes, that’s what I was told. Before the press conference I was told about it. Sometimes I go and look myself, when stuff comes up. This time I didn’t have the time to do it.”

Is it his job to "investigate every piece of evidence"?

He suggested it is not his job “in a fast-moving case, to go out and investigate every piece of evidence that was given to me. Otherwise, you’re never going to write a story. You’ll never come to a conclusion.”

The attorney went on to ask Powell, “You had the ear of a number of conservative media outlets. Why did you not ask to provide a statement correcting the misstatements that you had reported?”

Powell replied, “That didn’t seem to be the material part of the inquiry.”

In August, Powell briefly left an interview after a reporter questioned her about claims she made against the election technology company, Smartmatic, as IJR previously reported.

Giuliani, Powell and My Pillow founder Mike Lindell attempted to block the lawsuits Dominion filed against them. Still, a federal judge ruled they could move forward.
