‘Good Riddance’: Trump Bashes Retiring GOP Rep. and His ‘Very Stupid Impeachment Vote’

CULLMAN, ALABAMA - AUGUST 21: Former U.S. President Donald Trump addresses supporters during a "Save America" rally at York Family Farms on August 21, 2021 in Cullman, Alabama. With the number of coronavirus cases rising rapidly and no more ICU beds available in Alabama, the host city of Cullman declared a COVID-19-related state of emergency two days before the Trump rally. According to the Alabama Department of Public Health, 67.5% of the state's population has not been fully vaccinated. (Photo by Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images)

Former President Donald Trump is celebrating Rep. Anthony Gonzalez’s (R-Ohio) decision not to run for reelection in 2022.

In a statement on Friday, the former president said, “RINO Congressman Anthony Gonzalez, who has poorly represented his district in the Great State of Ohio, has decided to quit after enduring a tremendous loss of popularity, of which he had little, since his ill-informed and otherwise very stupid impeachment vote against the sitting President of the United States, me.”

“This is no loss for Ohio or our Country and, most importantly, we have a great candidate who was substantially leading Gonzalez in the polls, Max Miller, who I have given my Complete and Total Endorsement,” he continued.

Finally, Trump said, “Max is a tremendous person who will represent Ohio well. Good riddance to Anthony, he can now get himself a job at ratings-dead CNN or MSDNC!”

In a statement on Thursday, Gonzalez, one of the 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump, said, “Since entering politics, I have always said that I will do this job for as long as the voters will have me and it still works for my family. As Elizabeth and I consider the realities of continuing in public service while juggling the increasing responsibilities of being parents to our two beautiful children, it is clear that the best path for our family is not to seek reelection next fall.”

“While my desire to build a fuller family life is at the heart of my decision, it is also true that the current state of our politics, especially many of the toxic dynamics inside our own party, is a significant factor in my decision,” he added.

In February, Trump endorsed former White House aide Max Miller in his primary challenge against Gonzalez.

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), who also voted in favor of impeachment, blasted Trump for his statement and claimed it “reminds us all, once again, that Trump is at war with the Constitution.”
