Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) has been given the opportunity to deliver an opening statement at a select committee hearing investigating the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

According to a source familiar with the plan, Cheney will deliver her opening statement on Tuesday following Rep. Bennie Thompson’s (D-Miss.), as The Hill reports.

The hearing will also include testimony from four police officers present at the Capitol on January 6, including Harry Dunn, Aquilino Gonell, Michael Fanone, and Daniel Hodges.

Tom Manger, the new chief of the U.S. Capitol Police, told CNN he would “absolutely” allow his officers to discuss what happened on January 6 because “they need to be heard.”

A group of House Republicans has called for Cheney and Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) to be punished for joining the committee.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced that she would be adding Kinzinger to the committee on Sunday, as IJR reported.

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), who also serves on the committee, spoke out against the Republicans who want to punish Cheney and Kinzinger.

“It tells you where Kevin McCarthy is and where the Republican Party is,” Schiff said during Monday’s CNN “New Day” interview.

He added, “That is, that they’re an anti-truth party.”

Schiff also argued, “It just shows how much [the party] has been hollowed out by the former president.”

Pelosi rejected two of McCarthy’s recommendations for the select committee, Reps. Jim Banks (Ind.) and Jim Jordan (Ohio).

In response to her rejection, McCarthy pulled all of his picks. He then proceeded to blast Pelosi for appointing Cheney and Kinzinger, as IJR reported.

“Speaker Pelosi’s rejection of the Republican nominees to serve on the committee and self-appointment of members who share her pre-conceived narrative will not yield a serious investigation,” McCarthy said in a Sunday statement.

He continued, “The Speaker has structured this select committee to satisfy her political objectives. She had months to work with Republicans on a reasonable and fair approach to get answers on the events and security failures surrounding January 6.”

McCarthy argued Pelosi also “destroyed the select committee’s credibility.”
