Caitlyn Jenner is calling the debate on transgender women competing in school sports “such a small issue.”

During an appearance on Fox News on Wednesday, Jenner explained to the hosts what she would do if she were governor of California to address this issue.

“I would put together a commission. Trans women compete in the Olympics, they compete in the NCAA, but when it gets down to the high school level, there’s no guide rules, there’s no rules and regulations on how they can,” Jenner said.

She added, “Trans women who are truly trans, who at a very young age started proper medical treatment, they’ve grown up as girls, of course they should be able to compete in girls’ sports. But, if some guy who hasn’t done any therapy, hasn’t done anything, there has to be a review board.”

Calling it “such a small issue,” Jenner added, “It’s like a non-issue that’s out there and I would be surprised if there’s 30 trans athletes in the entire state.”

During an interview with TMZ earlier this month, Jenner told the publication, “This is a question of fairness. That’s why I oppose biological boys who are trans competing in girls’ sports in school. It just isn’t fair. And we have to protect girls’ sports in our schools.”

After the interview, Jenner tweeted, “I didn’t expect to get asked this on my Saturday morning coffee run, but I’m clear about where I stand. It’s an issue of fairness and we need to protect girls’ sports in our schools.”

Jenner has received pushback from the transgender community. The first transgender woman to be a Democratic nominee for California governor in 2018, Christine Hallquist, told the San Francisco Chronicle, “Unfortunately, because of her background and reputation, she has become the figurehead we don’t want.”

Hallquist added, “She hasn’t really done anything to raise the voices of those who can’t speak for themselves.”
