Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) is launching a bid for House Republican Conference chair.

Her announcement on Wednesday comes as House Republicans voted to purge Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) from her leadership position.

“I strongly believe that one of the most important qualities in any leader is the commitment and ability to listen,” she wrote inn a letter to her colleagues.

Stefanik continued, “This week, I have had hundreds of productive and informative conversations with Members from all corners of our Conference. Today I humbly ask to earn your vote for House Republican Conference Chair to unify our message as a team and win the Majority in 2022.”

“Despite the media’s endless attempts to divide us, our Members are united in our laser focus on defeating the radical Socialist Democrat agenda of President Biden and Speaker Pelosi. Our Members believe that the stakes are far too high for us to be divided.”

She also listed out her goals as conference chair, including “a disciplined, unified message from our leadership team,” “a communications posture on offense every single day,” and “empower all our Members to shine.”

Check out her letter below:

Some Republican lawmakers have expressed support to replace Cheney with Stefanik, including House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.).

Cheney said following Wednesday’s ouster vote, “I will do everything I can to ensure that the former president never again gets anywhere near the Oval Office.”

Former President Donald Trump reacted to the vote, saying in a statement, “Liz Cheney is a bitter, horrible human being,” adding, “I look forward to soon watching her as a Paid Contributor on CNN or MSDNC!”
