Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) is questioning whether there is a different standard for Republican and Democratic politicians who face sexual harassment allegations.

“Is there a different standard for different sides of the aisle? We just had a president who lasted all four years with numerous allegations against him, so far as rape. No one on his own side of the aisle was making observations about whether or not he should stay in office,” Whitmer said during a Politico Live event.

She added, “So is there a different standard? I guess one could conclude that but weighing in on that, I don’t know [if that] gets either one of us very far.”

Whitmer weighed in on the allegations of sexual harassment against New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D). She explained the claims should be taken seriously and expressed her support for an investigation.

“If they are true then there should be accountability but until that investigation happens, I don’t know that you can make a conclusion,” Whitmer said.

Cuomo is facing several calls to resign from top Democrats including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.), as IJR reported.

“The repeated accusations against the Governor, and the manner in which he has responded to them, have made it impossible for him to continue to govern at this point,” Nadler said in a statement.

Ocasio-Cortez and Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y.) cited the allegations against Cuomo as well as the report he “hid data on COVID-19 nursing home deaths from both the public and the state legislature” in their call for Cuomo to resign.

“Governor Cuomo can no longer effectively lead in the face of so many challenges,” they said.

New York Attorney General Letitia James is leading the investigation into the allegations against Cuomo.
