Former President Donald Trump is making a promise to campaign against Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska).

“I will not be endorsing, under any circumstances, the failed candidate from the great State of Alaska, Lisa Murkowski. She represents her state badly and her country even worse,” Trump said in a statement over the weekend.

He continued, “I do not know where other people will be next year, but I know where I will be – in Alaska campaigning against a disloyal and very bad Senator. Her vote to advance radical left Democrat Deb Haaland for Secretary of the Interior is yet another example of Murkowski not standing up for Alaska.”

Murkowski was one of the seven Republicans who voted to convict Trump on the charge of inciting an insurrection during his second impeachment trial, as IJR previously reported.

Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), one of the Republicans who opposed the impeachment trial, defended Murkowski during an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press” Sunday.

Host Chuck Todd asked Barrasso if he supports Murkowski’s reelection.

He replied, “I want to always make sure we nominate somebody who can win in November. Lisa Murkowski knows Alaska better than anybody, and she’s an incredible fighter for American energy.”

“She hasn’t made an announcement if she’s even going to run again. If she does, I’m going to support her.”

Murkowski acknowledged last month her vote to convict Trump could have political consequences but said she “can’t be afraid of that.”

She told reporters if residents of Alaska decide that “because I did not support my party that I can no longer serve them in the United States Senate, then so be it.”

The senator also called on Trump to resign following the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, as IJR previously reported.
