Democrats and Republicans remain divided on various issues, including how to handle the COVID-19 pandemic and the impeachment of President Donald Trump. Still, they agree on at least one thing — America is not on the right track.
According to a new Axios-Ipsos poll, 80% of Americans claim the nation is “falling apart.”
Twenty-two percent of Democrats and 19% of independents are not proud to be an American. Seven percent of Republicans and 17% of Americans overall agree. The poll was conducted Jan. 11-13.
An ABC News/Ipsos poll released on Sunday shows a majority of Americans believe Trump should be removed from office before the end of his presidency, as IJR previously reported.
Fifty-six percent of respondents believe he should be removed, and 43% said he should not be removed.
Those who said they did not believe Trump should be removed were asked why they feel that way.
Fifty-four percent believe Trump’s actions were not wrong. Meanwhile, 45% agree his actions were wrong, but “it is not worth pursuing because he will be leaving office anyhow on January 20.”
The polls were released after pro-Trump rioters mobbed the U.S. Capitol last week.
The House impeached the president for a second time on Wednesday, as IJR previously reported.
Trump condemned the violence in an address from the Oval Office on Wednesday.
“I want to be very clear. I unequivocally condemn the violence that we saw last week. Violence and vandalism have absolutely no place in our country and no place in our movement. Making America great again has always been about defending the rule of law, supporting the men and women of law enforcement, and upholding our nation’s most sacred traditions and values,” he said.
President-elect Joe Biden urged the Senate in a statement on Wednesday to move forward with impeachment proceedings while addressing other crucial issues, including the COVID-19 pandemic, as IJR previously reported.
