House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is reiterating her support for invoking the 25th Amendment to remove President Donald Trump from office.

CBS’ Lesley Stahl pressed Pelosi during a “60 Minutes” interview scheduled to air on Sunday night on what will happen if Trump pardons himself.

“He can only pardon himself from federal offenses. He cannot pardon himself from state offenses and that’s where he’s being investigated in the state of New York,” Pelosi said.

Stahl argued it is possible there could ultimately be no punishment or consequences and he could potentially run for president again.

“And that’s one of the motivations people have for advocating for impeachment,” Pelosi continued.

Stahl suggested impeachment could take more than 10 days and asked Pelosi if it makes sense.

“Well, I like the 25th Amendment because it gets rid of him. He’s out of office. But there is strong support in the Congress for impeaching the president a second time,” the speaker added.

During her press conference on Thursday, Pelosi first signaled support for removing Trump from office using the 25th Amendment, as IJR previously reported.

“In calling for this seditious act, the president has committed an unspeakable assault on our nation and our people. I join the Senate Democratic leader in calling on the vice president to remove this president by immediately invoking the 25th Amendment,” Pelosi said.

She went on, “If the vice president and Cabinet do not act, the Congress may be prepared to move forward with impeachment. That is the overwhelming sentiment of my caucus and the American people, by the way.”

In a letter she penned to her colleagues on Friday, Pelosi said she and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) called Vice President Mike Pence to discuss the 25th Amendment, as IJR previously reported.

“We still hope to hear from him as soon as possible with a positive answer as to whether he and the Cabinet will honor their oath to the Constitution and the American people,” Pelosi said.

A source close to Pence said he has not completely ruled out the option to invoke the 25th Amendment.
