Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) is not holding back when it comes to what she thinks should happen with President Donald Trump, amid high tension in Washington, D.C., this week.

Speaking with the Anchorage Daily News on Friday, Murkowski became the first Republican senator to call for Trump to resign.

“I want him to resign. I want him out. He has caused enough damage,” she said, adding, “I think he should leave.”

The senator continued to take a swing at Trump, “He said he’s not going to show up. He’s not going to appear at the inauguration. He hasn’t been focused on what is going on with COVID. He’s either been golfing or he’s been inside the Oval Office fuming and throwing every single person who has been loyal and faithful to him under the bus, starting with the vice president.”

She added:

“He doesn’t want to stay there. He only wants to stay there for the title. He only wants to stay there for his ego. He needs to get out. He needs to do the good thing, but I don’t think he’s capable of doing a good thing.”

Murkowski’s remarks come amid calls from several Democrats for the 25th Amendment to be invoked or else Congress may pursue articles of impeachment.

Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) said during a “CBS This Morning” interview on Friday that he would “definitely consider whatever articles” the House “might move, because as I’ve told you I believe the president has disregarded his oath of office.”

Additionally, Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) became the first Republican lawmaker to call for the 25th Amendment to be invoked.

The president shared on Friday that he will not be attending President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration on Jan. 20. He did vow this week that there will be an “orderly transition” of power.

In response to Trump saying he will not attend his inauguration, Biden told reporters in Delaware on Friday, “It’s a good thing, him not showing up.”

“He has exceeded even my worst notions about him. He has been an embarrassment to the country, embarrassed us around the world. Not worthy, not worthy to hold that office,” Biden also said.
