President Donald Trump is taking a swing at Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.).
The president continued to push unsubstantiated claims of widespread voter fraud, tweeting, “How can you certify an election when the numbers being certified are verifiably WRONG. You will see the real numbers tonight during my speech, but especially on JANUARY 6th.”
Trump added a warning for Cotton, “[Tom Cotton] Republicans have pluses [and] minuses, but one thing is sure, THEY NEVER FORGET!”

Trump’s remarks come after Cotton rejected the push by at least 12 of his Republican colleagues in the Senate to challenge the Electoral College count during the joint session of Congress on Jan. 6, as IJR reported.
Cotton said in a statement that while he has concerns about “irregularities” in the 2020 presidential election, “I will not oppose the counting of certified electoral votes on January 6.”
He wrote:
“The Founders entrusted our elections chiefly to the states — not Congress. They entrusted the election of our president to the people, acting through the Electoral College — not Congress. And they entrusted the adjudication of election disputes to the courts — not Congress. Under the Constitution and federal law, Congress’s power is limited to counting electoral votes submitted by the states.”
“If Congress purported to overturn the results of the Electoral College, it would not only exceed that power, but also establish unwise precedents,” Cotton added.
Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) also came out against the plans by several Republican lawmakers, calling it an “egregious ploy” in rejecting electors, which he says, “may enhance the political ambition of some, but dangerously threatens our Democratic Republic.”
Trump has refused to concede the election, even after the Electoral College vote affirmed Joe Biden’s win.
Trump also wrote in another tweet on Monday, “The ‘Surrender Caucus’ within the Republican Party will go down in infamy as weak and ineffective ‘guardians’ of our Nation, who were willing to accept the certification of fraudulent presidential numbers!”

Ahead of the joint session on Wednesday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) wrote a letter to her Democratic colleagues on Sunday, where she said, “Over the years, we have experienced many challenges in the House, but no situation matches the Trump presidency and the Trump disrespect for the will of the people.”
She also wrote, “If a written objection is lodged by a Member of the House and Senate, we then meet in our individual chambers for up to two hours of debate. Only then will Members be recognized to speak on the Floor. Unless both the House and Senate vote to reject the Electoral count for the state in question, the objection is rejected.”
