Time magazine is listing not one person but a duo to be its 2020 “Person of the Year.”

The magazine chose President-elect Joe Biden and vice president-elect Kamala Harris as its “Person of the Year,” because, as the magazine noted on Twitter, “Person of the Year is not just about the year that was, but about where we’re headed.”

“As Biden sees it, trusting his instincts and tuning out the naysayers is a big reason why he’s going to be the next Commander in Chief,” Time writes.

Additionally, the magazine adds, “The Vice President has never before been a woman, or Black, or Asian American,” then citing Harris, who said, “I will be the first, but I will not be the last. That’s about legacy, that’s about creating a pathway, that’s about leaving the door more open than it was when you walked in.”

The magazine describes the moments for Biden and Harris following Election Day:

“On election night, Biden was at home in Wilmington; 13 members of his family had individually quarantined beforehand in order to watch the returns come in together. […] Most of the Biden brain trust didn’t go to bed at all. Every hour or two, they were briefed by the campaign’s analytics director.

[…] When the networks finally called the race on Nov. 7, Joe and Jill were away from the television, sitting on lawn chairs in the backyard. All of a sudden loud cheers broke the silence, and their grandchildren came running, shouting, ‘Pop won!’ Once inside, Biden’s first call was to Harris.”

This is the first time the president-elect and vice-president-elect have been jointly chosen for the magazine’s “Person of the Year.” Several other men have been chosen for the “Person of the Year” after winning their first presidential election.

The magazine also chose Dr. Anthony Fauci — the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and member of the White House coronavirus task force — along with frontline health care workers as the “Guardians of the Year.”

“Guardians put themselves on the line to defend the ideals sacred to democracy. In 2020, they fought on many fronts,” Time writes.

Additionally, LeBron James was named Time’s “Athlete of the Year.”
