Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger is speaking out about President Donald Trump following the 2020 presidential election and his state certifying President-elect Joe Biden defeated Trump.

After noting that Georgia had a “wildly successful and smooth election,” the state’s secretary of state wrote in a USA Today op-ed published on Wednesday “we finally defeated voting lines” and “put behind us” Fulton County’s reputations “for disastrous elections.” He added it should be celebrated “whether their favored presidential candidate won or lost.”

He then said, “For those wondering, mine lost — my family voted for him, donated to him and are now being thrown under the bus by him.”

Georgia saw record voting numbers this election with 1.3 million absentee ballots cast and record early voting. There were roughly 2.7 million others who voted in-person. Biden was projected the winner of the state by just over 12,000 votes — a state that he flipped.

Raffensperger continued to write, “Elections are the bedrock of our democracy. They need to be run fairly and, perhaps more important, impartially. That’s not partisan. That’s just American. Yet some don’t seem to see it that way.”

He then noted Trump has refused to concede the election and that there was “an onslaught of fake news and unrepentant disinformation threatened to tear the fabric of our country apart” following Election Day.

Raffensperger later added, “In times of uncertainty, when the integrity of our political system is most at risk, the integrity of our politicians is paramount.” He called on Republicans who “are men and women of integrity” to step up and “guide us through.”
