Vice President Mike Pence and the Trump administration are not advocating for another national lockdown.

During a coronavirus task force briefing Thursday, Pence explained the Trump administration will support decisions made at the state and local level based on what is happening with COVID-19.

“With that being said, President Trump wanted me to make it clear that our task force, this administration, and our president does not support another national lockdown, and we do not support closing schools,” Pence said.

He added, “The CDC never recommended that we close schools at any point this year.”

The largest school district in the nation, New York City’s public school district, will be putting a stop to in-person classes beginning Thursday, as IJR previously reported.

“Unfortunately, this means public school buildings will be closed as of tomorrow, Thursday Nov. 19, out (of) an abundance of caution,” New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) wrote on Twitter. “We must fight back the second wave of COVID-19.”

He explained during a press conference there would likely be more restrictions imposed, as IJR previously reported.

“For everyone who honestly might feel somehow a little better if knew that indoor dining was going to close, or gyms were going to close, I’m sorry to tell you that for the sake of those business owners and everyone who loves those gyms and loves indoor dining it’s just a matter of time,” de Blasio said.

He went on, “It’s very likely to be in the next week or two.”

While delivering remarks Friday from the Rose Garden, Trump told Americans, “I can tell you this administration will not go to a lockdown. It won’t be a necessity.”

President-elect Joe Biden said during a press conference on Thursday, he is not planning on shutting down the economy.
