Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is explaining why some Republicans have failed to congratulate President-elect Joe Biden on his victory.

A reporter asked McConnell if some Republicans have not congratulated Biden because they are afraid of President Donald Trump.

“Until the Electoral College votes, anyone who’s running for office can exhaust concerns about counting in any court of appropriate jurisdiction. That’s not unusual. It should not be alarming,” McConnell said.

McConnell argued Trump had not done anything to prevent the Biden administration from transitioning.

“I don’t think anything that’s occurred so far interrupts an ordinary process of moving through the various steps that I indicated and allowing, if there is a new administration, it to work through the transition. All of these steps will be taken at the appropriate time,” McConnell said.

McConnell made it clear he believes Trump has every right to investigate voting “irregularities” in last week’s election, as IJR previously reported.

“Let’s not have any lectures,” McConnell said. “No lectures about how the president should immediately, cheerfully accept the preliminary election results from the same characters who just spent four years refusing to accept the validity of the last one.”

Attorney General William Barr gave federal prosecutors the go-ahead to investigate allegations of widespread voter fraud and other irregularities, as IJR previously reported.

The president has no plans to concede the election anytime soon.

On Sunday Trump slammed the media for calling the race.

“Since when does the Lamestream Media call who our next president will be?” Trump said.

He added, “We have all learned a lot in the last two weeks!”

In a statement on Saturday, Trump declared the election is “far from over.”
