Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) is warning Americans President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee Judge Amy Coney Barrett is nothing like the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

During her Senate confirmation hearing this week, Klobuchar expressed concerns surrounding the differences between Barrett and Ginsburg.

“I believe, and I think the American people have to understand that you would be the polar opposite of Justice Ginsburg. She and Justice Scalia were friends, yes, but she never embraced his legal philosophy,” Klobuchar said.

She added, “So that is what concerns me and I want to turn to an area where I think Justice Ginsburg, whose seat we are considering you for, was truly a hero and that was the area of voting rights.”

Senate Democrats are pressing Barrett on a variety of issues including the Affordable Care Act and abortion.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) asked Barrett whether Roe v. Wade, the landmark abortion ruling, was wrongly decided, as IJR previously reported.

“If I express a view on a precedent one way or another, whether I say I love it or I hate it, it signals to litigants that I might tilt one way or another in a pending case,” Barrett said.

Barrett, a devout Catholic, said she could put aside her religious beliefs when making decisions on the court, as IJR previously reported.

Feinstein also questioned Barrett about President Donald Trump’s suggestion to delay the election and asked her if the Constitution gives him the authority to do so.

Barrett replied, “If that question ever came before me, I would need to hear arguments from the litigants and read briefs and consult with my law clerks and talk with my colleagues and go through the opinion writing process.”

She will face questions from Senators on Tuesday and Wednesday.
