As the first presidential debate nears, President Donald Trump is pushing for Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden to take a drug test before the debate. But, Biden’s campaign is not staying silent on that demand.

“Vice President Biden intends to deliver his debate answers in words. If the president thinks his best case is made in urine he can have at it,” Biden’s deputy campaign manager Kate Bedingfield said in a statement.

She added, “We’d expect nothing less from Donald Trump, who pissed away the chance to protect the lives of 200K Americans when he didn’t make a plan to stop COVID-19.”

Biden was also asked by a reporter if he will take a drug test before the debate, to which he chuckled then said, “No, I have no comment.”

Trump wrote on Twitter Sunday morning, “I will be strongly demanding a Drug Test of Sleepy Joe Biden prior to, or after, the Debate on Tuesday night. Naturally, I will agree to take one also.”

He continued, “His Debate performances have been record setting UNEVEN, to put it mildly. Only drugs could have caused this discrepancy???”

A reporter asked Trump during Sunday’s press conference, “Do you really believe that Joe Biden will be on any type of performance-enhancing drug ahead of the debates — or are you just joking?”

The president responded, “I’m not joking,” adding that he is willing to take a drug test and “I think [Biden] should too.”

Trump recently accused Biden of “taking something, you know that gives him some clarity,” he said during a “Fox & Friends” interview.

The first presidential debate will be held on Tuesday at 9 p.m. EST in Cleveland, Ohio. Topics selected for the debate include the Supreme Court, Trump and Biden records, race and violence in U.S. cities, COVID-19, among others.
