Cindy McCain, the widow of the late Republican Sen. John McCain, is being asked about President Donald Trump’s remark regarding her and her late husband after she tossed her support behind Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden.

After the news broke of Cindy McCain’s endorsement, Trump took to Twitter early Wednesday writing, “I hardly know Cindy McCain other than having put her on a Committee at her husband’s request.”

“Joe Biden was John McCain’s lapdog,” he continued. “So many BAD decisions on Endless Wars [and] the V.A., which I brought from a horror show to HIGH APPROVAL.”

The president concluded saying that he was “never a fan of John,” adding, “Cindy can have Sleepy Joe!”

Cindy McCain endorsed Biden as he takes on Trump in the upcoming presidential election.

She said on Twitter Tuesday, “We are Republicans, yes, but Americans foremost. There’s only one candidate in this race who stands up for our values as a nation, and that is [Joe Biden].”

Speaking on her endorsement during the “Good Morning America” interview, Cindy McCain said, “I like everyone else want to have a president that will have my back, that shows empathy and compassion, who has courage and dignity in how they lead, and that’s Joe Biden.”

“I just felt it was time to take a stand on this,” she added.

She reiterated, “I want a President who has my back on things.”

Asked about her being a Republican and “you must disagree with [Biden] on lots of issues,” as ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos put it, Cindy McCain responded, “Sure, we disagree… But it’s OK to disagree, and you can do it and be amenable about it and be kind to each other.”
