Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden blasted President Donald Trump for continuing to hold indoor campaign rallies amid the on-going COVID-19 pandemic.

“We could be looking, as I said, between 178,000 and 200,000 lives lost, and all the president does is deliberately change the subject,” Biden said during a campaign event on Monday.

He continued, “He just watched him hold an indoor rally with thousands of people. Many of whom weren’t wearing masks, despite the clear evidence that you’re putting every one of those people’s lives at risk.”

“Oh, he loves his rallies. And the next time he holds one, look closely. Trump keeps his distance from anyone in the rally. The folks who come are packed in tight as they can be, risking disease, mostly without masks. But not Trump. He safely keeps his distance,” he added.

He also claimed that Trump holds the rallies for “entertainment” and “adoration” and charged that he has little regard for his supporters.

Biden also appeared to reference comments Trump made to a reporter when he was asked if he was concerned about the spread of the coronavirus at his rallies.

Biden seemed to claim that Las Vegas Review-Journal White House Correspondent Debra J. Saunders tried to speak with Trump and was told to “keep your distance” due to coronavirus concerns.

Saunders addressed tweeted out shortly, “Today, Biden said I tried to talk to Trump, who told me to stay away. Here’s what really happened.”

Today @JoeBiden mangled what happened when I interviewed @realDonaldTrump on 9/13. On 9/15 Biden said I approached Trump on stage. Wrong. Today Biden said I tried to talk to Trump who told me to stay away.

During the interview, Saunders asked Trump if he was concerned about the spread of the coronavirus at his rallies, he said, “I’m more concerned about how close you are, to be honest. Because you know why? I’m on a stage, and it’s very far away.”

“And so I’m not at all concerned,” he added.
