House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) remembered the Americans who died during the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.

On the steps of Capitol Hill, the top-ranking Democrat, along with her colleagues, paid homage to the lives lost during the terrorist attacks. There was a commemorative moments of silence.

In a statement marking the 19th anniversary of the attacks, Pelosi honored the “3,000 precious souls” who lost their lives due to the “unfathomable” act of terrorism that took place.

“On the morning of September 11, 2001, our nation witnessed an unfathomable act of terror that killed 3,000 precious souls, shattered countless lives and stole the innocence and sense of security of a generation,” Pelosi said.

The California lawmaker recalled the series of events that transpired as she praised the heroic first responders who risked their lives in the name of patriotism.

She added, “Nineteen years later, we still remember where we were when the Twin Towers fell, when the Pentagon was struck and when Flight 93 was brought down in a field in Pennsylvania. Yet, due to the extraordinary heroism of our firefighters, police officers and first responders who rushed into danger, September 11 does not belong to fear, but rather to courage, patriotism and compassion.”

We will #NeverForget the courage, patriotism and compassion shown by our firefighters, police officers and first responders who rushed into danger – and we will never forget the unity and strength that we found in the weeks that followed. https://t.co/5tOJePEvl1 pic.twitter.com/M21knsJ2Cp

She expressed support for those who lost loved ones during the attacks as she reflected on the memory of the fallen Americans.

“While we pray that time may have diminished the pain and grief felt by those who lost loved ones, it will never dim the memories of those who perished or lessen our gratitude for our heroes and all those who have bravely served our nation since that tragic day,” she said.

Pelosi concluded, “As Americans across the country mark this solemn day, we recommit to our sacred promise to never forget – never forget what we lost and never forget the unity and strength that we found.”
