Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) slammed the Republican Party and Kimberly Guilfoyle as she pointed out the flaws in Guilfoyle’s immigration claims.

After the opening night of the Republican National Convention, Ocasio-Cortez took to Twitter to express her disapproval of Guilfoyle’s claims as she questioned alleged “immigrant experience.”

During the RNC speech, Guilfoyle referenced her mother being of Puerto Rican descent as part of her immigrant experience.

Ocasio-Cortez refuted Guilfoyle’s claim of being an immigrant as she reminded her and the Republican Party that Puerto Rico was and still is, part of the United States.

“The woman the GOP picked as their ‘proud’ Latina to tout ‘immigrant experience’ didn’t seem to know that Puerto Rico is already part of the United States,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted.

She added, “It’s quite on message, bc it reflects their belief that Latinos aren’t real citizens, even when we are Native descendants.”

Ocasio-Cortez’s remarks came shortly after Guilfoyle delivered her speech during the first night of the Republican convention.

Guilfoyle — a strong supporter of Trump, a senior campaign official for his re-election campaign, and Donald Trump Jr.’s girlfriend — referred to herself as a first-generation American.

“My mother Mercedes was a special education teacher from Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. My father, also an immigrant, came to this nation in pursuit of the American dream,” Guilfoyle said on Monday night.

According to History.com, Puerto Rico became an American territory following the 1898 Spanish-American War. Since 1917, Puerto Ricans have been considered citizens of the United States. Because of this, Guilyfole’s mother has always been considered American.

Like Ocasio-Cortez, many viewers took to Twitter to share their reaction to Guilfoyle’s claims as they criticized her speech. Many also pointed out that she technically is not an immigrant.

The funniest thing about @kimguilfoyle claiming her mother is an immigrant from Puerto Rico is that her father is an actual immigrant from Ireland. #RNCNationalConvention

So Kimberly Guilfoyle's speech writers also think Puerto Ricans are "immigrants"? Or do they just think hysterical delivery + tight dress + abject inaccuracy = winning formula for wannabe-FLOTUS? I mean I can see their point.

The Republican National Convention will resume on Tuesday night.
