House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is suggesting President Donald Trump is attempting to discourage Americans from voting ahead of the upcoming presidential election.

During her appearance on “MSNBC Live with Ayman Mohyeldin,” Mohyeldin noted an NBC and Wall Street Journal poll indicating only 45% of Americans are confident the results of the election will accurately be counted.

He asked Pelosi if she can tell Americans not to be afraid of what happens on Election Day in November.

“One thing I will say to the American people: Do not pay any attention to Donald Trump,” Pelosi said.

She added, “It is his goal to scare people from voting, to intimidate them by saying he’s going to have law enforcement people at the polls, to welcome in fact Russian intervention into our election, letting Putin decide who will be president instead of the American people.”

Pelosi’s comments come amid the president’s consistent claim Democrats are attempting to deny Americans a fair and free election.

During his appearance before delegates at the Republican National Convention gathering in Charlotte, N.C, on Monday, Trump accused Democrats of using the coronavirus pandemic to “steal” the election from him, as IJR previously reported.

Trump has come under harsh criticism for his attacks on the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) and universal mail-in voting.

Appearing on Fox Business on Aug. 13, Trump slammed universal mail-in voting and argued if Democrats do not receive funding for the Postal Service in the next coronavirus relief package, they “can’t” have universal mail-in voting, as IJR previously reported.

Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) released a statement calling on Trump to “cease his assault on the Postal Service.”

Trump later denied he is “sabotaging” the Postal Service and said he wants “to make the post office great again.”
