President Donald Trump’s campaign immediately laid into Senator Kamala Harris after Democratic nominee Joe Biden named her as his vice presidential pick.

In a statement attributed to Trump advisor Katrina Pierson, the Trump campaign declared, “Kamala Harris called Joe Biden a racist and asked for an apology she never received. Clearly, Phony Kamala will abandon her own morals, as well as try to bury her record as a prosecutor, in order to appease the anti-police extremists controlling the Democrat Party.”

The Trump campaign also said that while running for president, Harris “gleefully embraced the left’s radical manifesto, calling for trillions of dollars in new taxes and backing Bernie Sanders’ government takeover of healthcare.”

The Trump team added that by picking Harris as his vice president, Biden “is surrendering control of our nation to the radical mob with promises to raise taxes, cut police funding, kill energy jobs, open our borders, and appease socialist dictators.”

They closed by saying, “At the ballot box, Americans will resoundingly reject the abysmal failures of Biden-Harris in favor of the America First strength of President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence.”

During the presidential primary, Biden and Kamala clashed over his record on bussing. But when addressing Biden in the exchange apparently referenced in the Trump campaign’s statement, Kamala specifically told the former vice president, “I do not believe you are a racist.”

Harris went on to ask Biden if he would acknowledge that he was wrong in opposing bussing. The former vice president responded, “I did not oppose bussing in America. What I opposed is bussing ordered by the Department of Education. That’s what I opposed.”

Sen. Kamala Harris confronted former Vice President Joe Biden on his recent remarks defending his work with segregationist senators. "I do not believe you are a racist … [but] it was hurtful to hear," she said. https://t.co/52FIvKbhuv #DemDebate2 pic.twitter.com/9iuK60rNTF

In March, Biden promised that he would nominate a woman as his vice president, and Harris was always at the top of the speculation. If elected, Harris would be the first woman and first person of color to serve as Vice President of the United States.
