A surrogate for President Donald Trump and 2012 presidential candidate Herman Cain tested positive for coronavirus this week after attending the president’s rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Cain is fighting the virus in an Atlanta hospital, according to a statement from his Twitter account.

The statement reads in full, “On Monday, June 29, Herman Cain was informed that he had tested positive for COVID-19. By Wednesday, July 1, Mr. Cain had developed symptoms serious enough that he required hospitalization.”

It continued, “He spent part of last night in the hospital and as of today, Thursday, July 2, he is resting comfortably in an Atlanta-area hospital. Mr. Cain did not require a respirator, he is awake and alert.”

The statement added, “There is no way of knowing for sure how or where Mr. Cain contracted the coronavirus, but we do know he is a fighter who has beaten Stage 4 cancer.”

Cain’s team said that, “With God’s help, we are confident he will make a quick and complete recovery.”

They asked for prayers for Cain and all of those fighting the virus and their families.

We are sorry to announce that Herman Cain has tested positive for COVID-19, and is currently receiving treatment in an Atlanta-area hospital.

Please keep him, and all who are battling this virus, in your prayers.

On June 20th — nine days before he was told that he tested positive for the virus — Cain posted a photo to Twitter of himself and several other people, none of whom are wearing masks, in the stands at Trump’s Tulsa rally.

He captioned the photo, “Here’s just a few of the #BlackVoicesForTrump at tonight’s rally! Having a fantastic time!”

Cain is not the only person who reportedly tested positive after attending the rally. An Oklahoma reporter also said that he tested positive after covering the rally.

The Trump campaign also announced that eight of their staffers who worked on the advance team on the rally tested positive and dozens of Secret Service members were ordered to self-quarantine after the president’s rally in Oklahoma.
