Former Vice President Joe Biden’s campaign is responding to comments it says are “unbelievably reckless” by President Donald Trump’s son Eric Trump.

In a statement, Biden deputy campaign manager Kate Bedingfield said Eric Trump’s comments about the coronavirus made during an appearance on Fox News are “unbelievably reckless.”

“To claim that the coronavirus is a political hoax that will ‘magically’ disappear is absolutely stunning and unbelievably reckless,” she said

Bedingfield continued, “The simple fact is that President Trump ignored the threat of the coronavirus for months and has mishandled the response at every step since — destroying the strong economy he inherited from the Obama-Biden administrations and leading to countless unnecessary death.”

“Trump’s campaign knows he can’t run on that dismal record so they’re desperate to do whatever they can to throw up a smokescreen to try to conceal his historic mismanagement of this crisis,” she added.

During an appearance on Fox News on Saturday, Eric Trump claimed that Democrats want to “milk” the coronavirus to hurt his father’s electoral chances.

“Biden loves this, Biden can’t go out on stage without making a horrible blunder,” he said, adding, “They think they’re taking away Donald Trump’s greatest tool, which is being able to go into an arena and fill it with 50,000 people every single time.”

He continued, “After November 3rd, the coronavirus will magically all of a sudden go away and disappear, and everybody will be able to reopen.”

As the spread of the coronavirus accelerated around the country, Trump stopped holding physical rallies — his last one was in March.

While Trump has been unable to hold rallies, Biden has maintained a steady lead over him in national polls.

The president has previously acknowledged that not holding rallies could hurt his chances in the general election, “I actually think it’s very important. I think that would be a big — a big disadvantage to me if we didn’t, if we couldn’t have the rallies back.”

And CNN reports that the president’s campaign is exploring ways to begin holding physical rallies again.
