President Donald Trump’s administration is reevaluating its funding of the World Health Organization (WHO) Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Wednesday.

“At this point, we’re reevaluating our funding with respect to the World Health Organization,” Pompeo told reporters during a press briefing at the White House.

He continued, “Organizations have to work. They have to deliver the outcomes for which they were intended.”

“They have to execute on the mission that they are designed to achieve, and we’ve seen with respect to the World Health Organization … here we are. It hasn’t accomplished what it was intended to deliver.”

Trump also spoke about the WHO and said his administration was investigating the organization’s handling of the coronavirus outbreak. In the meantime, Trump said that the U.S. would be “holding back” on funding to the organization.

“The World WHO, World Health, they got it wrong. In many ways, they were wrong,” he said.

On Tuesday, Trump accused the WHO of being “China-centric,” he noted that officials in the organization appear to have been too quick to trust data coming from Chinese officials about the virus.

Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) accused the organization of pushing Chinese propaganda and participating in a “cover-up” to help protect China’s image.

However, the WHO it’s defended its response to the outbreak, as IJR has previously reported.
