Former Tallahassee Mayor and Florida Gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum (D) was found in an “inebriated state” at the site of a possible overdose on Thursday night, according to a police report from the Miami Beach police.

According to the report, authorities arrived at a hotel room in the city to find a man being treated with “a possible drug overdose” and Gillum was in the room “under the influence of an unknown substance.” The report also states that Gillum was “inside of the bathroom vomiting.”

The report states that there were “three small clear plastic baggies containing suspected crystal meth on both the bed and floor of the hotel room.”

Gillum reportedly left and returned to his hotel room “without incident.”

On Friday, Gillum issued a statement saying, “I was in Miami last night for a wedding celebration when first responders were called to assist one of my friends. While I had too much to drink I want to be clear that I have never used methamphetamines. I apologize to the people of Florida for the distraction.”

He added, “I’m thankful to the incredible Miami Beach EMS team for their efforts. I will spend the next few weeks with my family and appreciate privacy during this time.”

Gillum’s 2018 gubernatorial run captured the attention of the nation. He eventually lost to Governor Ron DeSantis (R). The race also caught the attention of President Donald Trump who called Gillum a “thief.”

After he lost his race for governor, Gillum told his supporters, “Stay tuned, there will be more to come. This fight for Florida continues.” He then began focusing on registering voters and kicked off a registration drive in March of 2019.
