Music icon John Legend is known for being politically active and this election season, he is supporting Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) as she fights her way through a crowded primary field.

On Wednesday, the singer appeared in South Carolina where he spoke in support of the Massachusetts lawmaker.

Speaking to a crowd in Orangeburg, Legend said, “I’m happy to report that we received our mail-in ballots back home in Los Angeles. The ballots are due in March but I’m proud to say that I’ve already marked my choice for the presidential nominee from the Democratic Party. I put it in pen because I made my decision. I’m not changing my mind.”

He continued, “I believe that Elizabeth Warren should be the next President of the United States of America.”

Warren also changed up her usual routine — staying and taking photos with everybody at the rally — and instead told the crowd “instead of a selfie line today, we’re going to hear John Legend perform.”

Legend has been an outspoken critic of President Donald Trump, tweeting in late 2019, “The President is a cancer and needs to be removed from office as soon as possible.”

Legend is hardly the first celebrity to get political this season, Cher recently endorsed former Vice President Joe Biden for the presidency, saying that she thinks he would be an “honest, smart, civil president.” And in January, actress and singer Mandy Moore appeared at a campaign event for former South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg, saying that he is “inspiring”

Warren has been unable to break into the top spot in the polls, which has been held mostly by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Biden. However, she did enjoy a massive fundraising boost after a debate last week in which she took shots at the other candidates — after that debate, the campaign announced that Warren brought in $2.8 million that day.
