Democratic presidential hopeful Michael Bloomberg’s campaign announced that it had picked up an endorsement from former Navy Secretary Richard Spencer.

“I am proud to endorse Michael Bloomberg for President of the United States,” Spencer said in a statement. “I have the utmost confidence that Mike will faithfully execute his duty as commander in chief.”

Spencer added that Bloomberg would “preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution and uphold the Uniform Code of Military Justice.”

Additionally, Spencer said Bloomberg has the “experience, integrity, and self-discipline to lead our armed forces, unite our country, and rebuild America.”

Bloomberg said he was honored to received Spencer’s endorsement and said the former Navy secretary “set an example for all Americans through his leadership and integrity.”

Spencer was forced out of his post after he tried to prevent President Donald Trump from intervening in a proceeding to evaluate whether former Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher should be allowed to retire with his rank as a member of the elite fighting force.

After his ouster, Spencer raised concerns that Trump’s action would send a signal to service members that “you can get away with things.”

He also accused Trump of having “very little understanding of what it means to be in the military, to fight ethically, or to be governed by a uniform set of rules and practices.”

He later penned an op-ed blasting Trump’s “shocking and unprecedented” intervention in Gallagher’s case and asked the world to “please bear with us as we move through this moment in time.”
