Greta Thunberg, the teenage climate activist who has driven the conversation about the “climate crisis,” has another accolade to add to her list of accomplishments after she was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize this week.

Thunberg was nominated by Swiss lawmakers Jens Holm and Hakan Svenneling. In a statement on Monday, the pair said that Thunberg has “has worked hard to make politicians open their eyes to the climate crisis” and “action for reducing our emissions and complying with the Paris Agreement is therefore also an act of making peace.”

The young activist was also nominated for the prize in 2019 and was considered among the favorites last year. The Nobel Committee instead chose Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali for “his efforts to achieve peace and international cooperation, and in particular for his decisive initiative to resolve the border conflict with neighboring Eritrea.”

While she was passed over for the Nobel in 2019, Thunberg was named Time Magazine’s Person of the Year. That honor angered President Donald Trump who complained that Time’s decision to honor Thunberg was “so ridiculous,” adding that “Greta must work on her anger management problem.”

So ridiculous. Greta must work on her Anger Management problem, then go to a good old fashioned movie with a friend! Chill Greta, Chill! https://t.co/M8ZtS8okzE

Trump was Time’s Person of the Year in 2016 and seems to have a fixation with being recognized by Time Magazine. He even had a fake issue of Time Magazine with his face on the cover hanging in one of his golf courses.

The president has also lusted over the Nobel Peace Prize. At one point, he claimed that Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe had nominated him for the prize.

Trump recently appeared to take a shot at Thunberg during a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, telling the crowd, “To embrace the possibilities of tomorrow, we must reject the perennial prophets of doom and their predictions of the apocalypse.”
