With a single tweet, President Donald Trump made “409K’S” trend.
The apparent typo was seemingly meant to be a reference to 401ks, a common retirement savings account for Americans. Trump tweeted about the stock market as it was poised to close at an all-time high on Thursday.
Trump fixed the tweet about an hour later:
STOCK MARKET AT ALL-TIME HIGH! HOW ARE YOUR 401K’S DOING? 70%, 80%, 90% up? Only 50% up! What are you doing wrong?

Still, that didn’t stop “409K” from trending on Twitter. Immediately after Trump’s initial tweet, people started sharing jokes and memes about 409K’S.

It’s unclear whether Trump confused 401k’s with the non-existent 409K’s or whether it was a simple typo. Some social media users have pointed out that the “1” and “9” keys do not appear near each other on phones or keyboards.
Still, Trump did have plenty to brag about. While people’s 401k probably isn’t up quite as high as he predicted, the Dow Jones industrial average did jump 230 points and the Standard & Poor’s 500 as well as the Nasdaq Composite both climbed almost a single percentage point on Thursday.
